Dogs are man’s best friends and the most loyal animals you can imagine. People from all walks of life rely on their faithful four-legged friends, from homeless individuals to millionaires.
Because dogs are so incredibly loyal, people also show their gratitude. For example, the story of a woman who had nothing and yet put her dogs first. When her story went viral on the internet, a kind stranger came to help her.
Last month, photographer Omar Camarillo captured a heartbreaking image: a homeless woman on the streets of Tijuana, Mexico. She wore only a trash bag to keep warm and dry, and she had only the company of her 6 dogs.
According to Bored Panda, the woman’s name is Luz Maria Olmedo Beltran and she is 65 years old. Her nickname is “Chole” and she has been living on the streets for eight years.
When he took the photos, the police arrived. They offered the woman to go to a homeless shelter to seek refuge from the bad weather. But the woman refused. She repeatedly refused because the homeless shelter does not allow animals, and she could not and would not leave her loyal dogs behind.
The homeless woman luckily spent that night in her son’s house. But the next day, she was back on the streets, reunited with her dogs.
The woman’s story quickly circled the globe. People were touched by her story and her loyalty to her dogs.
“I was shocked by the condition in which the woman was living,” Omar told Bored Panda. “I realized she has a heart of gold because she prioritizes animals despite her own dire situation.”
When Alejandra Castro saw the story, she was so moved that she decided to help the woman in person.
“Her love for her dogs deeply touched me,” she said on Facebook. “I have always believed that if you cannot love animals, you cannot love yourself.”
Alejandra found the woman and provided her with drinking water, food, blankets, and supplies for her dogs.
The homeless woman was very grateful for the stranger’s act. “She thanked me hundreds of times, until I cried,” Alejandra told Bored Panda.
Currently, the woman is said to be staying in a homeless shelter due to her poor health condition, but she is allowed to have her dogs with her. She hopes to one day have her own home where she can rescue even more dogs.
It is an incredible story, that someone in such a situation still puts themselves in second place. Her story is definitely an inspiration for many, and we hope she gets better soon.
