It is always heartbreaking when a pet goes missing, especially if it’s due to theft. A woman from Derbyshire, England, was recently devastated after her beloved dog was stolen in a violent robbery.
Fortunately, the dog is now safely back, and one of her owners wasted no time reuniting with her.
Joanna Fox, 50, was spending a quiet evening with her dachshund, Minnie when she fell victim to a shocking robbery.
Two men attacked Joanna, pushed her to the ground, and seemed prepared to harm her. “A masked man pushed me and I fell to the ground,” she shared with the BBC.
“The tall man took charge, and the small one loomed over me as if he intended to strike me.”
Most importantly, the thieves took her dog. This was the latest incident in a disturbing rise in dog thefts in the area, leaving Joanna utterly devastated.
“All I want is for my dog to come back. I feel shattered; I feel lost,” she expressed.
The incident occurred in broad daylight, and one of the suspects was captured on a security camera. The police initiated an investigation, and the story circulated on social media.
Days later, there was a breakthrough. Joanna got a call from a veterinarian, informing her that Minnie had been found and returned.
She expressed her joy at the news: “We all had to cry and are incredibly grateful,” she told the BBC. “I am very, very relieved.”
Joanna’s 22-year-old son James was also thrilled upon hearing the news and couldn’t wait to see Minnie again.
Upon hearing the news, he hurried to the veterinarian’s office. When he got stuck in traffic, he decided that continuing on foot would be quicker. Determined not to waste a second, he abandoned the car and dashed the remaining 3 kilometers.
“I didn’t hesitate; I was low on fuel and didn’t want to risk it,” James recounted to the BBC.
The extra effort paid off: he described how Minnie was ecstatic to see him and leaped into his arms as soon as she spotted him.
“Reuniting with our dog is the most amazing feeling in the world.”
