Have you ever encountered something so terrifying that you believed it was only possible in a movie?
This story is just like that, except it actually happened. And the reality is truly horrifying.
It all unfolded a month ago when Katie Holley woke up in her new Florida home with a peculiar sensation in her ear.
One morning, Katie woke up and felt something in her ear. She grabbed a cotton swab to investigate what it was, but she could never have imagined what she would see when she pulled it out.
To her horror, she found legs of a cockroach stuck to the cotton swab as she pulled it out of her ear.
Encounter with a Cockroach
Reports from FOX News confirmed that Katie had a live cockroach lodged in her ear. Despite their attempts, Katie and her husband couldn’t remove it and decided to seek medical assistance.
Her doctor used a numbing solution to kill the cockroach before removing it with suction.
“Feeling a cockroach die in a very sensitive part of your body is different than anything I could adequately explain,” Katie shared.
After the initial extraction, the doctor thought the entire cockroach was removed and prescribed antibiotics for Katie.
Persistent Discomfort
Despite the extraction, Katie continued to experience pain even nine days later. She visited her primary care physician, who discovered more remnants of the cockroach in her ear.
Further flushing revealed six additional pieces of the cockroach that had been lingering in her ear for over a week.
Katie was referred to a specialist to ensure complete removal of the insect.
“Later in the day, sitting in his office chair, the ENT placed some kind of microscope next to my ear. He didn’t say much, but he did confirm there was still ‘something in there.’ He used a tool that looked like a very large pair of scissors and PULLED OUT THE HEAD, THE UPPER BODY, AND THE ANTENNAE. I just sobbed,” she recounted.
The doctor revealed it was the second time that day he had removed a cockroach from a patient’s ear, as reported by FOX News.
Now, Katie wears earplugs to bed and has taken steps to prevent a similar incident by having her house professionally treated to avoid any future encounters with creepy crawlies.
