When 30-year-old Sarah Frei captured a photo of her 91-year-old grandpa John Rzeppa with his two great-grandchildren on Thanksgiving, she couldn’t resist sharing the adorable moment.
Little did she know that by posting the picture, she unknowingly saved his life, as reported by People.
The heartwarming scene took place during a Thanksgiving gathering at Sarah’s home in Detroit, where grandpa John, from Michigan, was cherishing the moment of holding Sarah’s baby boys, which Sarah beautifully captured in a photo.
After Sarah shared the photo on Instagram, one of her followers, Dr. Jennifer Mancuso, a dermatologist in Detroit and Sarah’s former high school mate, noticed something alarming in the image.
Dr. Mancuso observed a conspicuous mark on Sarah’s grandpa’s forehead, which she found suspicious upon comparing it to older photos of him, realizing that the mark had visibly grown over time.
She thought the mark on her grandfather’s forehead was just an age spot – it wasn’t.

Suspecting it might be malignant melanoma, Dr. Mancuso wasted no time in reaching out to Sarah with her concerns, prompting Sarah to inform her mother, Linda Renema, about the alarming discovery.
Despite being previously told that the mark was nothing to worry about following a biopsy a few years earlier, Sarah’s family decided to take her grandfather to the doctors based on Dr. Mancuso’s advice, leading to a skin cancer diagnosis.
Due to the timely detection, doctors successfully removed the skin cancer, eventually performing a skin graft, and John recovered just in time for his granddaughter’s wedding.
The family is now thankful for the power of social media, acknowledging how it played a crucial role in saving their beloved grandfather’s life.
