Caring for animals is not something to take lightly; it involves many responsibilities. Like children, animals rely entirely on us.
It is our duty to look after the vulnerable, whether they are animals or humans.
Like other animal enthusiasts, witnessing animals in pain angers me deeply.
The thought of inflicting harm on any living being, whether human or animal, is unfathomable.
Therefore, the story of Apollo the cat saddened me.
The animal organization Cats of San Bernardino was informed about a creature in urgent need of assistance.
“A few days ago, we were alerted to a possible blind cat. However, due to the loss of our dog Bailey to cancer, we had to postpone the search for the cat. We advised the person who reported the cat to try and locate him first, after which we would step in to help,” the organization shared on Facebook.
“Despite her attempts and reaching out to other animal groups, she was unsuccessful in capturing the cat. Contacting us, she mentioned the cat’s deteriorating condition and refusal to eat. That’s when we realized immediate intervention was necessary.”
Apollo was in urgent need of assistance from these compassionate animal rescuers.
Serious eye infection
Both of Apollo’s eyes were severely infected, rendering him blind.
When rescuers tried to approach him, he sought refuge in the bushes, making it challenging to capture him.
“On sighting him, we were appalled by his dire state. It was heart-wrenching,” expressed the veterinarian from the Cats of San Bernardino organization to The Dodo.
Unable to see those attempting to aid him, Apollo panicked immediately.
Despite his attempts to shield himself in the bushes, he was eventually apprehended.
Fearful of humans
Gently extracted from the bushes, Apollo was placed in a cage by the rescuers.
He was then transported to a veterinary clinic for further treatment.
Remarkably, his recovery journey began.
After numerous attempts to earn Apollo’s trust over an extended period, he slowly started to open up.

Upon observing the extent of his severe infection, actions were swiftly taken by the veterinarian.
“Patience is key; it requires time,” shared a team member.
Due to his critical condition, Apollo required daily specialized baths.
With dedicated assistance from the team, the courageous feline received the necessary care.
Subsequently, Apollo began to place more trust in people.
Over time, he not only felt better but also started to flourish.
“Initially, we feared he might lose both eyes, causing distress. However, his right eye healed entirely, whereas his left eye still encounters some issues, but his vision has been restored,”
Apollo is nearly fully recovered and grows stronger with each passing day.
As you mature, it becomes your responsibility to care for the vulnerable, whether human or animal.
Regrettably, stories of abandoned animals left to their destinies are all too common.
