As I grow older, my faith in doctors wanes.
Perhaps it’s due to the unsettling stories I come across online where individuals are deliberately misdiagnosed or poorly treated during hospital visits.
Ironically, as I age, I will likely require more medical attention, which should foster trust in healthcare professionals.
Yet, the fear of failing to receive a diagnosis or being misdiagnosed looms large for me.
Some individuals have faced horrific hospital encounters that tragically culminated in their demise…
Recently, a five-year-old girl passed away after being refused treatment for being 10 minutes late to her doctor’s appointment.
Kirsty Ermenekli, 32, rushed her six-year-old daughter Layla-Rose to the emergency room when the latter complained of feeling hot and dizzy.
Upon arrival at the hospital, Layla-Rose developed a high fever and rash on her hip.
“It felt like an eternity before the doctor arrived, it took several hours,” expressed Kirsty.
Following an examination, the doctor dismissed the hip spot as a bruise and attributed the fever to a common viral infection.
The mother and daughter were eventually discharged from the hospital.
Unfortunately, Layla’s condition worsened at home.
Upon returning to the hospital, Kirsty’s daughter tragically passed away eight hours after admission.
The mother now holds the doctors accountable and has filed a lawsuit against Royal Oldham Hospital.
“I questioned why we stayed in the ER for so long and why no blood tests were conducted, but they labeled me as paranoid, providing no updates,” lamented the mother to Daily Mail.
An investigation revealed that Layla-Rose succumbed to meningitis and sepsis.
Royal Oldham Hospital acknowledged “missed opportunities” in accurately diagnosing the young girl.
Layla was supposed to see a doctor at 9:05, but the consultation didn’t happen until 10:45.
“The initial doctor overlooked the bruise and failed to document it, resulting in sepsis progression over three and a half hours due to lack of intervention,” stated the hospital.
Despite all the explanations Kirsty may receive, nothing can fill the void left by her daughter’s absence.
“No one understands their children better than their parents. I’m more vigilant than ever; I believed she was in good hands,” expressed the grieving mother.
Rest in peace, Layla, sweet angel!
