Most kids adore playgrounds – where they can run freely, play with pals, pick up new skills, and explore thrilling play zones.
Parents can unwind on nearby benches as they watch over their little ones, feeling reassured that nothing serious will occur while their kids have a blast.
However, in rare instances, these seemingly safe places can turn into a nightmarish ordeal – as Amy Smith and her daughter Demi-Mai sadly found out.
Amy Smith and her 2-year-old daughter Demi-Mai had planned a delightful day at Kitson Park, Torquay, England.
But their fun quickly turned into a terrifying experience.
Young Demi-Mai had newly mastered climbing the rope leading to the park’s slide.
As her mom watched from a distance, cheering her on, Demi-Mai slid down. However, instead of laughter, her distressed state caught her mother’s eye, and she rushed towards her mom in a panic.
It was then that the mother witnessed a horrifying sight: her little girl’s legs were cut, with blood trickling from her thighs.
Shocked, Amy quickly identified the dreadful cause.
At the slide’s base lay shattered glass – seemingly deliberately placed there.
“I’m enraged that someone would do this in a children’s playground,” Amy expressed to The Mirror.
Amy rushed her daughter to the hospital, where she received medical care but thankfully avoided needing stitches.
She later reached out to the park authorities, alerting them of the incident and requesting the glass’s removal to prevent further injuries. Amy suspects someone smashed a bottle and purposefully scattered the glass on the slide – prompting her to caution other parents to stay vigilant at public play areas.
“By sharing this story, I hope to help other parents protect their kids from harm,” Amy shared with The Mirror.
