The night held special significance for Grande, marking her first Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Additionally, it was Slater’s inaugural Oscars appearance, with Wicked vying for the Best Picture award.
Upon the announcement of the Academy Award nominations, Slater celebrated his girlfriend’s achievement by posting tributes in her honor on Instagram.

Ethan Slater Praises Ariana Grande
Slater expressed his admiration for Grande’s role as Glinda. He shared with GQ: ‘I’m just really proud of Ari and the work she put into it. She really went for it. I’m really proud to have been there for that part of it and I’m really excited to be there for the next step when the world gets to see the amazing thing she’s done.’
He also commended her comedic skills, describing her as a versatile talent: ‘Ari is Ari; she’s amazing. She’s a comedian with an exceptional voice who excels in various areas. In my unbiased opinion, she’s one of the best comedic talents in recent film history. She’s a genius.’
Grande, in turn, lauded Slater as ‘amazing‘ in an interview in February. She shared in September with Vanity Fair: ‘There is no person on Earth who tries harder or does more to be there for the people he loves and cares about. There is no person on Earth with a better heart.’
