Choosing to adopt a puppy, only to reconsider due to realizing you don’t have the time and money to care for it, well, that’s just sad.
And that’s something little Vicente experienced first-hand. The poor little guy was brimming with happiness and excitement, waiting for his new owner to pick him up, but then his owner changed their mind and left Vicente all alone.
Vicente is a small puppy living in a Colombian shelter in Bogota. Due to his young age and good health, the staff quickly searched for a suitable adoptive family.
When a suitable owner was found who wanted to adopt little Vicente, he was overjoyed. The staff prepared him and even gave him a little outfit. Dressed up nicely and with gleaming eyes, he waited for an owner who never showed up.
This is what the Colombian shelter wrote on their Instagram page about the heartbreaking event:
“Vicente was all dressed up and filled with excitement waiting for his new adoptive owner to pick him up. But they never showed up. The adoptive father called to cancel the adoption.
People ask us why we are so strict in the adoption process! Well, we don’t want any doubt that our lovely four-legged friends are in excellent hands.
If you want to adopt a dog, know that this is a lifelong commitment. Animals are not toys you can throw away when you get tired of them.”
The man who wanted to adopt Vicente eventually didn’t want him because “they were so strict during the adoption process”. However, this says more about the owner, who simply didn’t want to take care of the dog.
I am very impressed with the way this center handled the situation. They take adoption very seriously. Because adopting a dog is not a game.
Vicente has found a new and loving family!
