Surviving the Unthinkable: A Mother’s 17-Year Journey to Find Her Daughter

On November 12, 1999, Tonie McNair left her apartment at six in the morning to go to work.

She noticed something strange right away. There was a bundle of blankets at the bottom of the stairs.

At first, Tonie thought it was a kitten. But upon closer inspection, she saw a newborn baby in the bundle, with the umbilical cord still attached.

Tonie ran back to her apartment to inform her sons Willie and Ricky.

Willie called the ambulance and the police, and Tonie took the baby to the emergency room.

It was a shock for everyone. The media reported on the mystery of Baby Doe, as the child was called. After a few months, Tonie’s life returned to normal.

But her sons continued to think about the baby. What had happened to Baby Doe?

It wasn’t until 2017, when a local TV station called FOX8 aired a segment about Baby Doe, that the truth became clear.

The TV station had found documents showing that the girl had been adopted when she was six weeks old. Her name was Angel Thomas.

Willie saw the segment about Angel and told his brother Ricky and his mother Tonie.

Tonie was excited. She immediately called the TV station in the hopes that someone could put her in touch with the now 17-year-old Baby Doe.

Meanwhile, more information emerged about the abandoned baby.

It turned out that the baby’s biological mother, Rochetta, had become pregnant at the age of 13. Rochetta lived with a man who abused and raped her.

According to Rochetta, the man attacked her after she gave birth to the baby. He had kidnapped the child and taken her to an apartment complex in the middle of the night – where Tonie would find the baby a few hours later.

Rochetta believed her daughter had died, but she had never stopped thinking about the child.

That night, Rochetta also watched the news about Baby Doe on FOX8 and was reunited with her daughter.

A fascinating story, isn’t it?

Imagine how emotional that must have been – thanks to all these kind people, it turned out well!
