From First Day to Graduation: Student Recreates Heartwarming Photo with Loyal Dog

It’s that time of year when many students have recently graduated, albeit in a strange period with the coronavirus. Many graduation ceremonies have not taken place.

But a student who had just graduated decided to do something original. He recreated a photo he had taken with his most loyal friend.

Corie Bliss adopted her dog Ruger when he was just a puppy, and he quickly became loved by the whole family, especially by her son Dylan. Every year they would go on vacation with their dog.

“We try to take him everywhere,” Corie told The Dodo. “He is very loyal and loves his family.”

Many years have passed and Ruger is now 11. He is slowing down a bit due to old age. Dylan also graduated this year.

Corie was browsing through old photos when she came across a photo of her son and her dog, from the first day of school when Ruger was still a puppy. She was so touched and took the opportunity to create a modern copy of this old photo.

Dylan and Ruger reenacted the same photo, but this time Dylan is wearing his graduation suit on the evening of the ceremony:

The photo is heartwarming, so tender.

“My makeup is running down my eyes,” Corie says. “So many memories.”

She shared the photo in a Facebook group and was touched, knowing that their dog may not have many years left.

“Our dear dog Ruger is terminally ill and battling cancer, we are so grateful to have him with us for our son’s graduation ceremony,” she wrote on Facebook, according to Fox 6.

“He doesn’t show it, but by the end of the day, when he lay down, you could see he is not the same old dog,” Corie told WMUR. “You would never know he has cancer.”

It was also a special moment for Dylan. Throughout his years in school, his dog was always there for him.

“Having Ruger as my buddy was the best,” he told The Dodo. “No matter how old I was, I will always have memories of coming home and Ruger waiting for me at the door.”

The family says they are planning a trip to Ruger’s favorite vacation spot, before he passes away. It’s clear this family wants to give their dog the best life possible.
