Courtney Greatrex, a 22-year-old Londoner, encountered a situation no woman should have to endure.
On her way to work, she faced harassment from three men in a van.
“They were making comments about me from the window, so I told them they were harassing me. They kept laughing and continued, even when I got more aggressive and told them to leave me alone,” Courtney told the Daily Mail.
Fed up with the situation, Courtney decided to take action against the men.
While walking to the subway at 7:30 in the morning, Courtney noticed she was being followed by the van.
The men inside the van continued to shout and harass Courtney, making her extremely uncomfortable.
Although such situations are unfortunately common for women, not all would confront it like Courtney did.
After repeatedly asking the men to stop, Courtney took a photo of the van, causing them to attempt hiding their faces.
Despite their efforts to conceal their identities, the company logo on the van labeled them as employees of “Aqua Roofing.”
Courtney shared the incident on Facebook, stating:
“Before 8 in the morning, I was repeatedly taunted by these three men in their van in slow traffic. They followed me on the road while ringing a bike bell, whistling at me, and laughing.
So I took a photo of their van, told them to leave me alone, and then they hid their faces, but not before calling me a dirty whore.
Don’t get me wrong, sexual harassment is a daily occurrence in London, and this happens almost every morning. But today, I won’t accept it.”
The story quickly gained traction online, leading to the boss discovering the incident soon after. Consequently, the men faced repercussions for harassing Courtney.
One of the men was promptly fired, and the other two were investigated. Their boss also engaged with Courtney regarding the matter.
“I spoke to the boss, who handled it very well, but the company has to take responsibility for these men riding in their van,” she commented.
Courtney’s bold actions in publicly addressing the men deserve immense respect.
There is no tolerance for sexual harassment in society, and we trust that these men have learned a valuable lesson from this experience.
