Mother Throws Baby from Tenth Floor of Burning Building – A Spectator Rushes to Catch It

Wednesday morning the world was shocked by the fire in London. The Grenfell Tower fire, caused by an exploded refrigerator, has so far claimed the lives of 12 people. 24 people are in the hospital (12 in critical condition) and 76 people are still missing.

The massive flames and smoke trapped people inside, making it impossible to escape. Some people decided to jump out of the building instead of burning inside. Others took extreme measures to try to save their children.

“I saw someone fall out, I saw another woman hold her baby out of the window. I was shouting at everyone to come down,” eyewitness Jody Martin told the BBC. “They said, ‘We can’t leave our apartments, the smoke in the corridors is too bad.'” BBC

The Daily Mail writes that a mother threw her baby from the ninth or tenth floor to save her child from the fire.

A man on the ground rushed forward to save the child. Hopefully, the baby survived without too many problems due to the smoke.

Samira Lamarani told the Daily Mail that she was there when the baby was thrown down and miraculously landed in the arms of a bystander.

Samira said, “People appeared at the windows, screaming and frantically pounding on the windows. The windows were slightly open, and a woman made it clear she was about to throw her baby down so someone could catch the child.”

Several people outside tried to calm the people inside by saying help was on the way. But the people in the building continued to try to get out in different ways.

One man even tried to make a parachute to break his fall from the building.

Samira said it was impossible to count how many people were at the windows, calling for help.

But the screaming and crying of the children were the worst, she said. “I could hear them screaming for their lives.”

I really hope that the mother who had to throw her baby out of the window is still alive and healthy. And that as many people as possible managed to escape the burning building.
