People do amazing things for their pets, and stories of unconventional ways to make them happy are always heartwarming.
One family went the extra mile by ordering a custom fish tank so that their curious cat could have a closer look at the fish.
Melissa Krieger, a resident of Cincinnati, has four cats who are captivated by her aquarium. Melissa shared with Bored Panda that her cats love to watch the fish swimming around.
Among her cats, Jasper was particularly fond of observing the fish. To enhance their viewing experience, the owners decided to create a unique, custom-made fish tank.
Melissa envisioned an aquarium where the cats could peek their heads up for a better view. “I thought it would be funny to create something like in children’s aquariums where you stick your head up – that was the idea,” she shared with the Daily Mail.
After discussing her concept with the local store Aquatics&Exotics, they designed a customized aquarium with a special viewing area for the cats.
Initially, the cats were puzzled by the new setup, but after a few weeks, they caught on. Jasper, in particular, discovered he could peek through the bottom and see the fish up close, sparking the cats’ interest.
“His eyes widened as he looked up and saw the parrotfish and they looked back at him. This made him want to go in more and more,” mentioned Melissa, “it’s great to see that they love it.”
This unique aquarium gained popularity online, with many visitors charmed by the cats’ reactions to the fish.
According to the Daily Mail, Melissa invested €2,500 in the 473-liter fish tank, an expense she deems entirely worthwhile.
“It’s so nice to see him happy because you have to stimulate their brains. It’s definitely worth the money,” shared Melissa, “You spend so much on a TV and this is like a TV for cats. As soon as we feed the fish, Jasper comes over.”
“He’s living his dream.”
Some concerns were raised about whether the cats would disturb the fish, but Melissa clarified that hasn’t been an issue because the fish are accustomed to the cats observing them.
“They don’t seem to mind. Some fish are older than Jasper,” Melissa informed Bored Panda. “We’ve had an aquarium for 15 years.”
“I really believe they either enjoy it or don’t care at all. The interaction has been going on for years. The fish, especially the parrotfish (the large orange ones) are very social with all our cats.”
What a unique idea! The lengths people go to for their pets is truly commendable. These cats seem to be thoroughly enjoying their time watching the fish!
