All dogs deserve to be treated with warmth and respect. Sadly, this isn’t always the reality.
One day, a dog is a cherished part of a family, and the next, they’re heartlessly abandoned. This abandonment of dogs happens too frequently and is truly distressing.
When 3-year-old German shepherd Rocco was left at a shelter in Texas, he was trembling with fear, clearly traumatized by the heart-wrenching reason behind this betrayal.
Experts at the shelter soon realized that Rocco had been callously discarded because he was no longer wanted by his owners.
He was malnourished and fearful, showing signs of severe neglect. Understandably, he was afraid of people due to his mistreatment.
Shelter staff learned that Rocco was abandoned simply because his owners were expecting a child, deeming him expendable.
The shelter shared Rocco’s photo on Facebook, hoping to find him a new loving home.
“Not the best owners”
After a video of Rocco was posted online, animal lover Preethi Pillaipakkam stepped in to help through the organization German Shepherd Rescue.
Expressing her shock to The Dodo, Preethi couldn’t understand why Rocco had been abandoned because of an upcoming baby.
“When I saw how underweight he was, I wasn’t surprised. It was probably a change in the family situation, and his owners were not the best owners,” she remarked.
Weighing only 60 kg, well below the average weight for his breed, Rocco clearly needed urgent care.
When Preethi took him under her wing, his fear and anxiety were palpable.
“He was incredibly fearful and hesitant to even get into the car. He was restless and visibly stressed,” she shared.
Preethi already had a dog of the same breed, which aided Rocco’s adjustment process, though it was still a long journey.
Rocco required ample time to comprehend that he was now in a safe place where he was loved. Thankfully, his transformation was a success.
Best Friend
“He began exploring the house quietly,” Preethi recounted. “He adores lounging on the sofas and dog mats, and he particularly enjoys playing with balls. He’s quite the skilled ball-catcher!”
He has now become inseparable from Preethi’s other dog, and they are constant companions, always by each other’s side.
By choosing to adopt Rocco, Preethi provided him with the care and trust he needed to heal. Rocco’s heartwarming journey can now be followed on a dedicated Instagram page.
This sweet and beautiful dog has finally found the loving home he truly deserves. Some individuals don’t deserve the companionship of such affectionate dogs in their lives.
