An American woman learned firsthand the challenges of such situations when she tried to rescue her dog from a frozen pond but ended up stuck herself.
Thankfully, both the woman and her dog were saved by a deputy sheriff.
As per the Butler County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, Deputy Sheriff Evan Depew in Ohio (USA) responded to a distress call on February 6 about a woman and a dog stranded on a frozen pond.
Allegedly, the dog had fallen through the ice while the owner attempted a rescue and also became trapped.
Fortunately, Deputy Depew, who is part of a first responder team, arrived promptly and ensured their safety.
The police department mentioned, “The swift response saved both the woman and her dog’s lives.”
Medical personnel attended to both the woman and her dog, ensuring they were warm and safe.
Deputy Depew was hailed as a hero, particularly as this marked his second daring rescue within a fortnight.
Earlier on January 26, Depew had saved a puppy that had fallen through ice while chasing ducks in a pond.
Using quick thinking, Depew threw a bag to the dog like a lasso, bringing it to safety. The puppy was then reunited with its owner after receiving care.
It’s astounding that Depew managed to rescue two dogs from similar icy predicaments in such a short time.
These incidents underscore the complexities of rescuing pets from frozen waters, highlighting the risks individuals may face when attempting such rescues without proper training.
Chief Deputy Richard K. Jones emphasized the importance of training responders to handle such emergencies safely, stating, “Swift actions with the knowledge, skills, and equipment make the difference.”
