Always Inspect Your Chicken: The Importance of Checking Your Chicken Filets Before Buying
It’s never fun to discover that the food you thought was healthy is far from nutritious.
Example: chicken fillets…
Chicken contains various beneficial nutrients, but the nutritional value varies significantly per fillet.
And according to the animal welfare organization Compassion in World Farming (CIWF), the presence of white stripes in chicken breasts has become increasingly common, something that should make you choose a different type of fillet next time you visit a supermarket.

Choosing a good piece of chicken is not always easy, but a good place to start is the expiration date.
However, recent reports and studies have emerged pointing to the presence of white stripes in some chicken fillets, making chicken meat less tender and nutritious.
This chicken looks normal at first glance, but if you look closely, you’ll see white stripes on it.

According to Compassion in World Farming, chicken with dense, white striping is up to 224 percent fattier than chicken without white stripes.
The organization has been supported by an American study which shows that more and more chickens are developing white stripes.
The culprit?
Poultry farmers who want their animals to grow as quickly as possible.
White stripes not only alter the taste and nutritional value of chicken but also make it more difficult for chicken meat to absorb marinade.
CIWF also notes that when chickens are forced to gain weight quickly, the amount of suffering they endure increases, writes BuzzFeed.

These nutrition scientists are not saying we should stop eating chicken – it is still a good, lean source of protein – but we should avoid chicken breast with white stripes or choose chicken that is not factory farmed.
I’ll think about this next time I buy chicken fillets. If each of us shares this information, more people will eat healthier, tastier chicken. And maybe the industry will even stop selling chicken with white stripes!
