Experiencing a child falling seriously ill is a nightmare for any parent.
Every parent wishes for their children to grow up healthy and happy. Witnessing them suffer from sickness, especially when it could have been prevented, is incredibly distressing.
Kayley Burke, a mother of two from Queensland, Australia, recently recounted a tragic and preventable incident.

Chickenpox
Kayley’s son, eleven-year-old Elijah, contracted a severe case of chickenpox.
Since he was too young to be vaccinated against the disease, and due to other parents not keeping their infected kids at home, Elijah got sick. Kayley and her other child, Kaliah, also got infected, but Kaliah’s recent vaccination lessened the severity of her symptoms. Nonetheless, she still suffered, reported by news.co.au.
Kayley took to Facebook:
“Vaccinate your children,” she urged.
“The following images illustrate why.
“Our little boy, too young for immunization, has contracted chickenpox. It’s almost been a week since he got it.”
Expressing her distress to the Sunshine Coast Daily, Kayley said: “It’s heartbreaking; I can’t bear to see him suffer through this.
“I’m frustrated that he’s sick. I strongly advocate for vaccinations, and I believe if he was old enough for the shot, he wouldn’t be this sick.”
Her Facebook update continued: “Kalia and I have also contracted chickenpox.”
“Fortunately, as Kaliah was recently vaccinated, she only has a few spots and blisters but is otherwise coping well.”
Kayley implored everyone to “be responsible” and not disregard a vaccine that could prevent such suffering.
“Consider the risk you pose to other vulnerable children who are too young or unable to be immunized,” she emphasized.
