A young blind woman, Megan Taylor, faced mistreatment on a bus in Merseyside, England, for having her black guide dog, Rowley, with her.
While onboard, a fellow passenger verbally abused Megan, insisting that her black dog was not a guide dog because guide dogs are usually yellow Labrador retrievers, as reported by The Daily Mail.
Megan, who experiences episodes of blindness due to a head injury, relies on Rowley for assistance during unexpected fainting episodes.
Despite explaining her situation, Megan was disbelieved by the passenger and called a liar for asserting that guide dogs can be of any color.
“I try to stay positive and not let these incidents affect me, as I’m not embarrassed about my disability,” Megan stated.
These distressing encounters have left Megan too anxious to use public transportation, reflecting the challenges faced by people with disabilities in society.
‘Stay positive’
Despite facing adversities, Megan maintains her resilience and calls for greater understanding and acceptance of individuals living with disabilities.
I am appalled by the mistreatment Megan endured. It’s crucial that we enhance our empathy and respect towards individuals with disabilities.
