Far too many animals are treated as mere objects that can be discarded when they become too troublesome.
Fortunately, there are people dedicated to aiding animals in distress, striving to offer them a second chance at life.
Marshall Maynard, a border patrol worker in Texas near the Mexican border, encountered three individuals who had crossed the border unlawfully in April 2018.
While pursuing them in his jeep, they fled back to Mexico, leaving behind a black sports bag.
Border patrol officers witness numerous odd and astonishing occurrences in their line of work amidst the picturesque landscapes, but nothing could prepare Marshall for what he uncovered inside the bag.
Tiger cubs found
Inside the bag, Marshall discovered a nearly lifeless three-month-old tiger cub.

According to a staff member at the Gladys Porter zoo where the tiger was initially taken, the cub was on the brink of death due to the oppressive heat, reaching 41 degrees.
Thomas DeMaar, a veterinarian from the zoo, stated, “There is no doubt in my mind that had we waited 30 more minutes before looking, we wouldn’t be having this conversation today, the cub would have been dead.”
Gets a playmate
The Brownsville Herald reports that the tiger was moved to a wildlife sanctuary where the 30-pound cub found companionship with another tiger cub.

Thomas, the veterinarian, mentioned the high level of interest in the cub and utilized this opportunity to educate visitors about the illegal animal trade.
Thomas told Brownsville Herald, “Sometimes people don’t even know this kind of trafficking is illegal, and how significant of an impact it has on conservation. These animals are taken from their natural habitats and sold for commercial purposes.”
Fortunately, this tiger was rescued in time and can now enjoy a peaceful life where it is treated with dignity, as it should be.
