Reading about animal abuse and neglect always hurts deeply. For animal lovers, it is unimaginable that someone could harm an animal, but unfortunately, there are also people who seem to disregard the well-being of animals.
Throwing around with coots
That’s how 9-year-old Zaid from Amsterdam found a group of boys yesterday on a field where he wanted to play soccer. The boys, a little older than himself, were throwing around two young coots. For fun…
“They were playing with the birds, and then they started throwing them around. After that, they set them aside. That’s when I quickly picked them up and took them home,” Zaid told RTL Nieuws.
Animal Ambulance
His mother says that Zaid was incredibly upset when he came home. He entered crying, saying that the animal ambulance had to be called.
And that turned out to be a great idea. The animal ambulance said the coots were dazed and likely had headaches from being thrown around. They were taken to a bird sanctuary where they are now being well cared for. There is a good chance they will make it.
“Zaid is a hero”
The animal ambulance posted a message on Facebook to thank Zaid for his generous deed. A 9-year-old boy who saves two animals from the hands of multiple older perpetrators is not something to be taken for granted.
For Zaid, however, it is, as apparently he has already called the animal ambulance several times: once for a dog that was lost and again for an injured bird.
Zaid and his mother are a bit impressed by the impact his heroic act has had. Modestly, Zaid tells RTL Nieuws, “I thought what I did was normal, but now I find it quite special.”
Big applause for Zaid! This boy clearly has a heart in the right place. And how nice that the coots are now in good hands.
