Labrador retrievers, well-known for their duck hunting skills, have a surprising bond with ducks, as demonstrated by one courageous Labrador who risked her life to save them.
Beauty, a black Labrador from Florida, shares a special friendship with local ducks named Cress, Downey, and Dot.
Misti Roberts, Beauty’s owner, mentioned to WJHG that Beauty is incredibly gentle with the ducks, contrary to typical expectations.
Recently, Beauty displayed her deep bond with the ducks by courageously confronting an alligator to protect them.
While visiting the ducks at Lake Powell, Beauty noticed an approaching alligator, poised to attack the ducks.
To defend them, Beauty intervened and tried to scare off the alligator, but unfortunately, she was injured in the process.
Following the attack, Beauty was rushed to the vet and diagnosed with severe injuries, including a broken thigh bone.
“She had multiple wounds and a leg injury, and she was in shock,” explained Dr. Gerrie Barr from VetsPets to WJHG.
Beauty underwent surgery for her injuries and is expected to recover within six to eight weeks.
Despite the challenges, Beauty’s heroic act saved her duck companions, earning her praise for her selfless bravery.
Dr. Barr remarked, “They are her buddies without a doubt. She deserves credit for saving their lives.”
