Brave Woman Battling Covid-19 Records Final Moments: ‘Never Imagined Fighting to Breathe’

When I heard this testimony, I was devastated. Sara was a mother, 43 years young, and sick with COVID-19.

After a brief struggle, she began to experience difficulty breathing. The battle she fought in the hospital was a fight for her life. With that in mind, she decided to send an important message to the world.

But now the woman is no longer.

Sara Montoya recorded a short video from her hospital bed in El Paso, Texas, and posted it on Facebook.

In the video, we see a seriously ill Sara with tubes in her throat to help her breathe, just to be able to speak.

She talks about what COVID-19 has done to her and how collectively we do not take enough time to appreciate the small and important things in life, such as… breathing.

“Never in my life did I think I would struggle to breathe. Something we took for granted every day when we woke up in the morning,” says Sara.

The video has been viewed more than 6 million times…

“Do not endanger your families”

In tears, Sara continues: “Do not endanger your families. I did the best I could. It’s not worth it. Wear your mask. Don’t go out if you don’t have to. Everyone thinks it’s a joke, it’s NOT a joke.”

Sara emphasizes that she fought hard for the life she always wanted and refused to give up.

The mother of two further told how much she misses her family, and thanked those who helped her, including the hospital staff.

“I am leaving this hospital. When, I do not know, but I will get out of here.”

Unfortunately, she never left the hospital.

Sara died a few weeks after recording her video. She leaves behind a husband, two daughters, and two grandchildren.

“Before she was put on the ventilator, I spoke to my mother. I collapsed and started crying. ‘Don’t cry, honey,’ were the last words I heard from my mother,” Jazmin tells TODAY.

Her daughter Jazmin told SD News that she completely broke down when she saw her mother’s video. Now she wants to further spread her mother’s testimony.

“Her video has been viewed over 5 million times and I am glad that people realize that this virus is real. I really thought she would be able to come home with a ventilator. My family still needs her. I just want our community to take this virus seriously,” Jazmin tells TODAY.

Her family hopes that Sara’s death will show the importance of respecting standards and restrictions and social distancing, to prevent more people from getting sick.

According to CNN, there have been 200,000 deaths from coronavirus in the United States alone. This number must be taken seriously.

Sara invited us to share her video, so feel free to do so: “Feel free to share my video, I have no shame. In the beginning I did, but now it has become part of my life.”

Rest in peace, Sara.
