This year, Miss Nepal made headlines, not by winning, but by making history in a different way. Keep reading to learn what made her so unique!
The Miss Universe pageant has been around for 71 years. However, this year, the pageant witnessed something new for the first time; a contestant in plus-size. The 22-year-old contestant from Nepal made history by being the first woman to not fit the standard size that the pageant is accustomed to!
While many people appreciated her beauty and unique figure, she also faced heavy criticism from those who could not appreciate her beauty! Jane Dipika Garrett was candid in her opinions and about her feelings. She had always dreamed of becoming a model but struggled with her self-confidence. Participating in the competition, however, helped her gain more confidence in herself.

She said that the applause she received while on stage was unexpected. The young Nepalese woman said she “didn’t expect anything” and participated to represent her country and also “to represent women around the world.”
The young Miss Universe contestant revealed that she also received some unfriendly messages. She described some messages as outright “cruel.”
She said: “I see things like ‘Oh, she’s a whale’ or ‘Why don’t you go to the gym? And things like that.” She continued: “I’m like: they don’t even know my story. They don’t even know what I’ve been through.”
She revealed that she has been diagnosed with a condition called polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). This condition involves an overproduction of androgens by the ovaries. This means that people with this condition have higher levels of androgens than normal. PCOS manifests in various ways: some may gain weight, others may experience irregular menstrual cycles, acne, and excessive hair growth.
The Miss Universe contestant shared that she recently gained some weight due to the condition. She said: “That really took a toll on my mental health and my self-confidence because I thought I wasn’t good enough or I wasn’t pretty enough.
However, she did not let anything stop her from giving her best during the Miss Universe pageant. She prepared thoroughly and did her utmost to win the title.
While there are always people who are negative and find fault with another’s appearance, we must learn to ignore them!
Miss Nepal is indeed a beautiful person, not just on the outside but also on the inside.
