La’Darious Wylie, an 11-year-old boy, was a child like any other child in his neighborhood.
However, his true nature came out when he did something he had learned at home.
And it is in stark contrast to what we normally see.
Somewhere on a road in South Carolina, La’Darious was waiting for the school bus with his 7-year-old sister Sha’Vonta.
As they stood waiting there, something happened in half a second that changed the lives of the entire family forever.
The little La’Darious was braver than most adults.
Because on that morning in October 2016, he did something most of us would never dare to do.
La’Darious, his sister Sha’Vonta, and a group of other children were standing on a street without a sidewalk, waiting for the bus to take them to school.

As they waited, a car came speeding towards his sister Sha’Vonta.
Car Came Speeding
The group of children, who were chatting loudly with each other, did not see the car coming, and Sha’Vonta was in a very dangerous spot.
“He was watching out for his sister,” said Elizabeth McCrorey, the mother of the two.
In less than a second, he pushed his sister out of the way so he would take the hit, not his sister.
And it happened. The car barreled straight towards La’Darious.

The heroic 11-year-old had pushed his sister out of the way and sacrificed his life for her safety.
According to the Charlotte Observer, the deranged driver was driving so fast that the boy caused “severe damage” to the car.
Fighting for Life
What happened next was horrifying. Instead of stopping to help La’Darious, the driver fled the scene. The boy lay on the ground, fighting for his life.
Other children who witnessed the accident called 911 for help.
The brave boy was rushed to the hospital by helicopter, but he did not survive.

Kimberly Robinson honored her nephew La’Darious:
“He was his mother’s apple of the eye. He was a polite boy, did well in school, and played football. His favorite team was the Baltimore Ravens. They were going to go on a school trip next week to attend a game. He was so happy.”
Mother Elizabeth had always taught her son to protect his sister.
La’Darious’s final act is proof of this.

He knew he had to watch over his sister. He proved that by pushing his sister away from danger, at the cost of his own life.
“I’m glad he saved my life,” said Sha’Vonta. “He was the best big brother.”
Saved his Sister
His organs were donated so that other children can live.
“I thought about it, and if my son can save someone’s life, as he did for his sister, then he died with a purpose,”
Two days after the tragedy, 57-year-old Michelle Johnson turned herself in to the police and was arrested for hit-and-run with death consequences.
Johnson claimed she had hit a deer. After the accident, she had dropped off her grandchildren at school.

But Elizabeth harbors no hatred for the woman who killed her son.
“I don’t hate her. I just wished it never happened,” she said.
In July 2017, Michelle was granted parole. 21 months after pleading guilty to manslaughter.
Her name is not important, let’s remember La’Darious Wylie instead. The boy who saved his sister.
“It’s incredible how many people now know what a wonderful boy my son was,” Elizabeth said.

This young hero is an example to us all. He put his sister’s life above his own and after his death, his organs were used to save the lives of others.
He proved that anyone can be brave, and we owe it to him to never forget his courageous act.
