A 20-year-old woman from Northeast England was severely beaten by two men until she fell heavily bleeding to the ground.
It’s the fifth time the woman has been attacked, reports The Sun.
Why? Because she’s a lesbian.
Unfortunately, hate crimes and threats are a daily reality for many homosexuals and transgender individuals.
When 20-year-old Charlie Graham was out with a friend in Sunderland, she was suddenly attacked from behind, causing her to fall heavily to the ground.
She told Daily Star:
“It hurt a lot. My body hurts everywhere and I have to take strong painkillers.
It has damaged my self-confidence. I don’t go anywhere anymore. I only feel comfortable at my mother’s home.”
Charlie has shared some photos on Facebook of the assaults.

This isn’t the first time Charlie has been a victim of threats and violence. Windows at her home have been smashed, and it’s the fifth time she’s been attacked.
Unfortunately, she fears it won’t be the last.
“I think you should be proud of who you are. It feels like I should now always stay at home and hide, but I shouldn’t feel that way. I want to be accepted,” says Charlie.
Increasing Awareness
Charlie shared the photos showing the violence because she believes it’s important to show the reality. “Because you can be attacked because of your sexual preference, skin color, or choice of clothing,” she explains.
According to The Sun, British police have confirmed that the 20-year-old woman was attacked by two men because she is a lesbian.
