In an alarming incident at a Chinese amusement park, a pig was coerced into leaping off a 68-meter-high bridge, sparking outrage from animal rights groups globally.
The BBC states that the amusement park in the city of Chongqing, China, is under intense scrutiny following the tethering of a pig to a bungee cord. A video capturing this distressing event has surfaced on social media, provoking strong reactions from animal advocates.
Forced Plunge from 70 Meters
Although animal abuse is not legally punishable in China, there has been a growing call for awareness around this issue in recent years, as reported by the Independent. Subsequent to the traumatic leap, the pig was also slaughtered, adding to the barbarity of the situation.
The pig’s coerced jump was part of the Chinese New Year festivities at the amusement park, which has since issued an apology for its actions.
“This form of animal cruelty is abhorrent. Bungee jumping is a frightening experience for humans. Now, picture the terror of quivering on your legs before being pushed off a towering platform. That’s the ordeal this innocent animal had to endure, all in the name of human entertainment,” expressed Jason Baker, the head of the Asian division of the animal rights group PETA.
