In an act of cruelty, a pig was made to bungee jump from a 68-meter-high bridge in a Chinese amusement park. This incident has sparked outrage from animal rights groups worldwide.
The BBC reported that a video showing the pig being tied to a bungee cord and forced to jump at a theme park in Chongqing, China, has gone viral on social media, eliciting strong reactions from animal activists.
Forced Jump from 70 Meters
Although animal abuse is not illegal in China, there has been a growing call for increased awareness on this issue, as reported by the Independent. Notably, the pig involved in this incident was slaughtered following the distressing ordeal.
The park justified this inhumane act as part of its Chinese New Year festivities and later issued an apology for the outcry it caused.
“This form of animal cruelty is reprehensible. Bungee jumping is a frightening experience for humans. Now, imagine the sheer terror of being pushed from a great height after trembling in fear on a platform. This is what this poor animal had to endure, all for human entertainment,” expressed a furious Jason Baker, the head of PETA’s Asian division.
He strongly believes that the theme park deserves the severe backlash it is facing as images of the pig have circulated widely on social media.
