A bear endured years of captivity in a cage, left completely alone, which led to the animal becoming obese due to the prolonged unhealthy and forced ‘life’ it had to endure.
Fortunately, the bear has now been rescued.
“It is without a doubt one of the worst cases I have ever seen,” says Debbie Metzler of the animal rights organization PETA, commenting on the bear’s medical condition after years of being confined in a cage. As reported by Pennlive.
It was in the American village of Millmont in Pennsylvania where the unfortunate bear was kept captive in a cage, on a cold, concrete floor. This cage was located in a so-called “sports club” where men engage in various activities such as hunting and shooting.
Named Dillan, the bear started to become extremely overweight due to the years of confinement, evident in the photos. This was the result of prolonged immobility.
Just a few meters from his cage, there was even a shooting range.
After a long struggle, the animal rights organization PETA managed to free the bear from its dire situation and relocate it to an animal shelter in Colorado.
A representative from the shooting club mentioned that children had been learning how to interact with animals for years, as reported by Pennlive.
Hollywood actor leads the rescue mission
It all began when Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin wrote a letter to Governor Tom Wolf describing how Dillan had been neglected for years.
After nine months of negotiations, PETA was able to liberate the poor bear from its cage. It is now being cared for and housed in a natural habitat in Colorado. Initially, there were concerns that the bear might not survive the journey due to its poor physical condition, but it did!
Animal rights activists worldwide now hope that the bear’s treatment at the center will make him healthier and happier.
