Jane Barlow, the royal photographer who took the last public photos of Queen Elizabeth II during her meeting with the new Prime Minister Liz Truss, revealed details of their final conversation at Balmoral.
Queen Elizabeth contemplated the afterlife
Apart from capturing the queen’s interaction with Truss, Barlow had a private moment with the queen, describing her as fragile but in good spirits as they discussed the stormy Scottish weather while waiting for the Prime Minister.
Despite the weather, Queen Elizabeth appeared cheerful and positive during their conversation.
‘I received many big smiles from her,’ Barlow shared, reflecting on their interaction. ‘Although I was there to capture her meeting with the new prime minister, the most meaningful photo for me turned out to be one of the queen alone, which has now gained greater significance.’
Barlow considered it a true honor and privilege to spend time with the queen before her passing at the age of 96 and to document that memorable day.
Another visitor to the queen before her passing, church leader Dr. Iain Greenshields, expressed astonishment at how rapidly Queen Elizabeth II’s health declined. Greenshields had recently dined with the queen and noted her positive demeanor despite her frail health.
‘Even in her frail state, she exuded regal grace, welcoming conversation with a radiant smile, embodying all the qualities expected from a monarch,’ Greenshields remarked. ‘While we knew of her fragile health, her swift decline in those final days was truly surprising.’

Greenshields also shared that he and the queen engaged in a conversation about the afterlife during lunch, emphasizing how Balmoral brought her a sense of tranquility.
‘She reflected on the meaningful encounters she had, contemplating the afterlife and the purpose of life, including thoughts on eternal life and resurrection,’ reported The Telegraph. ‘She found immense peace in Balmoral, and it seems fitting that it was where she passed on.’
Throughout her seven-decade reign, Queen Elizabeth II, at 96 years old, became an iconic and globally recognized figure.
