Capturing the Unbelievable: Photographer Turns Lens to the Ice and Captures a Jaw-Dropping Scene

Photographer James Balog and his team were investigating a glacier when their cameras captured something extraordinary.

The incident took place in Greenland, where James and his friends were collecting photos from cameras that had been stationed at the Arctic Circle for years.

James and his team were looking for good images for a documentary they were working on, but no one had foreseen what they would come across.

While American photographer James Balog has been specializing in nature photography for years, he did not believe in climate change.

In fact, for nearly 20 years, he made jokes about scientists and their climate stories.

“I did not believe that people were capable of changing this enormous planet and ancient climates. It seemed impossible, something beyond our capabilities,” Balog says.

It wasn’t until around 2005 that Balog realized something was wrong when he took a close-up look at how climate change was affecting nature.

During a photo expedition sponsored by National Geographic in the polar regions, he saw firsthand the immense damage.

Exactly 10 years later, Balog’s film Chasing Ice was released, and he decided to capture the melting ice with a whole army of cameras, from different locations and angles.

In this context, Balog captured one of the most spectacular scenes ever.

In less than five quarters, Balog and his team watched as a part of a glacier the size of Lower Manhattan disappeared into the ocean.

This historic moment was even recorded in the Guinness Book of Records and clearly shows how serious the situation is for the Earth regarding climate change.

Everyone agrees, it’s an unexpected geological disaster. Unfortunately, it is very unlikely that this will be the last time such a thing happens.

Watch the touching video below:

In November 2016, it was revealed that the North Pole was 20 degrees warmer than average, much warmer than research models had predicted.

An unprecedented disaster is looming if we do not reduce our global emissions to zero by 2070. We have a chance to do this now, let’s not wait any longer.

We hope that this video will convince more people about how serious this situation is, so that we can work together to make a change!

We cannot do it alone, but everyone can contribute. Share this post now!
