If you’re a homeowner, finding a trustworthy handyman can be a challenge when things go awry. Selecting the wrong service can lead to shoddy work or even fraud, adding to the stress.
While most handymen are reputable, some may overcharge for subpar services.
To tackle this issue, Lisa Guerrero, a correspondent at Inside Edition, took matters into her own hands by setting up hidden cameras to catch dishonest repairmen in the act.
Lisa, posing as a homeowner, contacted two air duct cleaning companies offering a special $29 deal to clean her ventilation system. Suspecting it was too good to be true, Lisa took precautions.
Prior to the repairmen’s arrival, experts inspected the ventilation ducts and found them to be dusty, requiring a simple cleaning.
To unveil any deceit, hidden cameras were strategically positioned throughout the house, including the attic.
Upon the arrival of the first repairman, the footage revealed his focus shifting from the ventilation system to other areas in the house.

Post-inspection, the repairman inflated the cleaning cost to $700, citing excessive dust. However, the recorded evidence showed otherwise – he hadn’t thoroughly examined the dusty areas.

Lisa directly challenged the repairman about his deceptive tactics, leading to his hasty exit.

The second repairman provided an even pricier estimate for the work, prompting Lisa to observe his actions throughout the task.

Such deceitful actions not only harm homeowners but also tarnish the image of honest handymen worldwide.
Before hiring any service, conduct thorough research, check customer reviews online, and if you suspect foul play, seek a third-party opinion. In case of improper work, alert the relevant authorities.
