However, a recent video showing a police officer mistreating a police dog has caused outrage online.
The footage, which has garnered over 1.5 million views since being posted, captured the officer’s shocking behavior towards the canine.
The video, shared on YouTube, depicts two officers at the scene – one restraining a suspect while the other is seen mistreating the police dog.
During the disturbing incident, the officer is seen lifting the dog by its legs using the leash and then striking the dog in a sensitive area with another cord.
Subsequently, he hoists the dog once more and flings it around by the cord.
Following public condemnation and an internal investigation by the police department, the officer was dismissed and an official report was filed.
According to the Hammond Police Department, the report confirmed that the dog did not display any aggression towards the officer and was not subjected to mistreatment.
The video has sparked widespread outrage, with thousands expressing their shock at the officer’s actions towards the dog.
NBC Chicago reported that while the officer’s actions on the busy road were justified, he would require additional training.
