# Compassionate Chimpanzees Embrace Orphaned Newcomer at Sanctuary
A young chimpanzee, Beckley, who lost his family to the illegal wildlife trade, found comfort and acceptance among his new companions at the Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue & Protection (LCRP) sanctuary. LCRP is a haven for over 40 young chimpanzees affected by the illegal bushmeat and pet trades in Liberia.
Recently, Beckley was welcomed into the sanctuary after being orphaned. The LCRP decided to introduce him to the Little Bassa Forest, a protected area where he could live among other chimpanzees.
The sanctuary shared on Facebook that Beckley quickly adapted to his new environment, fearlessly exploring his surroundings. He was not alone as two rescued chimps, Mary Beauty and Zacc, bonded with him. Mary Beauty even comforted Beckley when he needed it, showcasing a heartwarming display of compassion.
When the time came for Beckley to move to his permanent home in Little Bassa, he received a warm reception from his new family. A touching video captured the moment when the other chimps greeted Beckley with hugs.
Chimpanzees like Beckley, Mary Beauty, and Zacc have faced tragic circumstances due to poaching, but their bond and care for one another are evident. LCRP ensures that these chimps will thrive in a natural and secure environment together.
It’s essential to remember that chimpanzees are not meant to be pets or forced to live with humans, as emphasized by the sanctuary. Despite the challenges they’ve endured, these rescued chimps now have a safe space to live and support each other.
