We all need a little help sometimes, and it’s always inspiring to see people go out of their way to help animals. Even the smallest act of kindness can make a difference.
That was the case recently, after police officers gave a lift to a lost pig standing out in the freezing cold.
According to a Facebook post from the Anchorage police, officers received a call from a concerned citizen about a pig standing by the side of the road near Fairview.
It’s not the kind of case police officers often deal with, and the officers couldn’t help but make jokes about it: “We all know chilled bacon, we just never thought we would respond to a service-related call about it,” they wrote.
When they realized the pig was cold and alone, they decided to give the pig a ride in their vehicle. They described him as a ‘big guy’ who was ‘very friendly.’

Fortunately, they were able to reunite the pig with his family. They were quite amused to find out the pig’s name was “Elvis Pigsley.”
For many officers, this pig rescue could easily be one of their most unusual cases. But the Anchorage police noted that this was actually their second strange animal rescue of the past year.
In April, they were called to rescue a turkey from a neighborhood store: “I can’t really blame him. He was crossing the street by himself,” wrote the officers, calling it ‘a first.’

They carried the bird home and later joked that the bird was lucky to be caught around Easter and not Thanksgiving: “If it had been Thanksgiving or Christmas … this story could have had a very different ending. We’ll just say that.”
Thanks to these police officers for helping Elvis Pigsley make it safely and warmly back home! Share this story if you love animals!
