Possums are not usually the first animals that come to mind when you think of cute creatures. They are generally seen as annoying rodents that are known for playing dead.
But possums also have their charm, and sometimes they can win over people and find their way into their hearts… and their homes.
In a Reddit post, a man shared how a wild possum became an unlikely housemate for his aunt.
“This is Hank”, wrote Reddit user damndirtycracker. “Hank lives in my aunt’s garage. He is very old and has trouble walking, so she has set up a warm place for him to rest and gives him lots of treats.”

While many people have tried to get possums out of their garage, this aunt has turned her garage into a warm home for Hank. She has a large spacious garage and the possum has his own secluded spot. Since the building is not attached to the house, she can leave the door open so Hank can come and go as he pleases.
This friendship has been going on since Hank showed up a few years ago, and he seems quite happy to have a place to stay and eat cat food.
“He is not tame, but he also didn’t seem scared and never hisses,” wrote damndirtycracker. “As he got older, he stayed in the area longer until he decided he wanted to live in the garage.”
Although Hank can be a bit grumpy, you can always win him over with treats: “Average grumpy is pretty much his standard status until the treats come out, then he’s only mildly irritated by your existence.”

Possums don’t live long and Hank is already a few years old, but it’s nice that this possum has a good life while he’s still around.
Furthermore, he has convinced the internet how cute a possum can be. Many users who responded to the Reddit post said they unexpectedly fell in love with the animal after seeing the photo of him curled up in the garage.
“When she told me about Hank, my first thought was definitely not ‘aww’”, wrote damndirtycracker. “But then I saw him and realized I would die for him.”
Thanks to this kind aunt for providing a nice place for an old animal! It’s a nice reminder that non-typically cute animals also deserve some love!
