Dogs are such caring and loyal animals. They have a huge protective instinct and always take care of people when they need help, especially young children.
There have been many stories of children getting lost in harsh, dangerous conditions, only to be found alive thanks to the faithful dog that stayed by their side.
That was the case recently when a 10-year-old girl survived the freezing weather by cuddling with a stray dog for warmth.
According to The Mirror, the girl, named Vika Z, from Sakhalin Island in Russia, got lost on her way home from school.
The girl was missing for hours, and the situation took a drastic turn when night fell: the temperature dropped to -11 degrees Celsius. The accompanying snowstorm brought half a meter of snow.
Police and volunteers began a desperate search for Vika, fearing that the young girl would not survive the night in such harsh weather conditions.
After 18 hours, Vika was finally found, safe and alive, thanks to an unexpected friend.
According to local media, the girl was found “hugging a fluffy dog for warmth”.
The dog was a stray dog, and the girl cuddled with the dog on a mattress left by the friendly locals for him, sheltered from the snowfall. “She hid under a balcony with the dog,” said Olesya Voznyuk, a police official.
“She was taken directly to the hospital and was found to have mild signs of frostbite,” added a local source, according to The Mirror.
It was later revealed that Vika had a special bond with the stray dogs, so it’s not surprising that this street dog was willing to keep her company.
“The girl loves animals very much, she was playing with the local dogs,” said Voznyuk. “She used to feed these dogs after school and got caught in the snowstorm and harsh wind.”
The stray dog definitely saved the girl’s life and would normally be honored as a hero by the relieved locals. Unfortunately, the dog is currently missing.
Hopefully, he will turn up soon, and they can give him the recognition he deserves.
