Our dogs are not only there to protect us, but they unconditionally love us and are loyal companions who even save lives.
When owner Bob went outside to collect firewood on a cold New Year’s Eve, he slipped and landed on his back on the ice.
He couldn’t move. His wife wasn’t with him, and his closest neighbors were several kilometers away. The chances of him getting help were non-existent.
But then his Golden Retriever Kelsey rushed to the rescue. He kept him warm, licked him, and stayed by his owner’s side for a whopping 20 hours.

When Bob stepped outside of his country house, a large piece of land in the American state of Michigan, he was wearing only slippers, long sweatpants, and a long-sleeved shirt. However, it was already 10:30 PM, and the ground was covered in ice and snow.
As the man walked a few steps down from his door, he slipped and landed on his back on the icy ground. He knew he had broken something, as he could only move his elbows.
But that’s when Kelsey came to the rescue. His faithful four-legged companion laid next to him and licked him to keep him warm. Doctors suspect that thanks to the dog’s good deed, the man didn’t freeze to death, reports Today.
“He has spots all over his arms from her pawing at him all night to keep him awake,” Jenny, Bob’s daughter, says. “It was like she was telling him, ‘Hey, you’ve got to stay awake.’ If he fell asleep, he wouldn’t have woken up.”
Kelsey kept him warm day and night
No one could hear Bob’s cries for help, and he said no one would pay attention to Kelsey barking, as she does whenever she’s outside.
Bob believes he remained conscious until the next morning when a neighbor came to pick up some eggs the next day. That was reported by Today.
He was taken to the hospital where he was treated for hypothermia and an irregular heartbeat. He also had to undergo surgery to fix two hernias that were compressing his spinal cord, rendering him unable to move.
The man is now undergoing rehabilitation to learn to walk again and regain strength.

Thanks to his Golden Retriever, Bob survived this accident. If his dog hadn’t kept him warm and awake, the situation may have ended in fatality.
