Occasionally, fate brings an animal into your life, and you just feel it’s meant to be. Individuals encounter a stray dog or cat and opt to offer them a new, loving home.
This scenario often unfolds for those in rescue professions.
For instance, police officers and firefighters who come across animals in need during their duties may choose to provide them with care.
Recently, a stray dog found his way into the hearts of a firefighting team when he wandered into their station and became an honorary member.
On January 15, the DeLand Fire Department in Florida inaugurated their Station 81 with a surprise guest: a stray dog strolling in and making himself at home in their new headquarters.
“This little guy decided to join the festivities,” the department shared on Facebook.
Although the firefighters grew attached to the dog, they responsibly handed him over to animal control with hopes of reuniting him with his owners.
However, after a month passed with no one claiming the dog, he was put up for adoption. Fortunately, he quickly found a new forever home.
The firefighters returned and officially adopted the dog, now known as Henry “Hank” DeLand, who will now reside permanently at the fire station.
“Henry is currently undergoing microchipping, neutering, and receiving all necessary vaccinations,” the department mentioned on Facebook.
Adding to his new role, Henry is now an honorary member of the firefighting team designated as their morale-boosting mascot with important duties.
“He will be joining us at upcoming city events,” the department explained.
Indeed, this stray dog found his way to the right station—it was simply meant to be.
We’re thrilled that this dog has found a new loving home and that these firefighters now have a caring pet to offer them comfort and support.
