From Dumped Dog to Guardian Angel: A Story of Resilience and Redemption

Lucky had little reason to enjoy his life. All owners and families he had been with neglected him; no one was interested in giving him the love he deserved.

Born in a puppy factory, Lucky never found anyone willing to adopt him. He was eventually given away for free.

The reason? Lucky had a deformed face and didn’t look like other dogs.

Lucky spent his life moving from place to place – never living in one home or having the chance to prove himself. He was often passed on for free to the next owner; no one wanted to keep him for long.

Over the years, Lucky has had many owners, but none of them really met his needs properly. Recently, he lived with a family in Austin, Texas, but unfortunately, he was neglected and left to fend for himself.

Since the family’s cats didn’t like Lucky, he had to stay outside 24 hours a day.

He was left in the backyard, tied to a tree, without proper food or a comfortable sleeping place. There was no chance he would be cared for or receive the care and love a dog would typically get in a home.

When the family decided to move, they decided without thinking to get rid of Lucky.

They contacted a nearby dog shelter. Volunteers from the shelter searched for a new place for him, while Lucky stayed with his ‘family’ until they moved.

The shelter eventually found a new family willing to take care of Lucky. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for them to change their minds; one look at Lucky’s face made them decide against the adoption.

Fortunately, a social media post changed everything.

One of the shelter volunteers took Lucky to get groomed and posted a few pictures of him on social media.

These caught the attention of Jamie Hult, who immediately asked to meet the dog.

“It happened to be someone in my dog rescue world, so I reached out to them immediately and said, ‘I want that dog. I don’t even want to foster, I want that dog,’” Jamie told iHeartdogs.

Lucky’s rescue

Unfortunately, Lucky was not in good shape. After years of abuse and neglect, he suffered from malnutrition among other issues.

He was covered in fleas and had worms, plus he was never microchipped.

However, Jamie decided to take him home. It wouldn’t be easy, but she wanted to do it at all costs.

Thanks to Jamie, Lucky found his forever home. He finally received the love and care he had been seeking for so long.

It has been a bumpy ride, but Lucky has fully recovered and is now enjoying life as a healthy dog.

“He barely made it. He was in the oxygen chamber for a week. Eventually, I spent 8000 dollars on an MRI treatment to see what was going on because he was so infected… He was skin and bones,” Jamie said.

Almost dead

Jamie was determined to help Lucky, knowing she would do anything to restore his health.

“It was on the edge and we almost lost him once. I told my vet, ‘I don’t care – do what you need to do for this dog in particular and I will pay whatever it is. Spare no expense. And he made it. He’s healthy. He’s free and healthy.”

With the help of veterinarians and Jamie’s huge heart, Lucky managed to turn his life around. He is doing great now!

Since adopting Lucky, Jamie has had to endure several mocking remarks about his appearance. But that doesn’t bother her; she loves Lucky just the way he is.

Jamie says: “When I first got him, I really wanted him to associate with people, but people ke…

Helping other animals

Lucky is a carefree and affectionate dog in every way. He takes good care of his younger sister and has even helped raise the kittens Jamie has adopted.

“I’m grateful for having Beaux and we still rescue and foster,” Jamie concluded. “He’s adopted kittens. Beaux Tox is good at everything. He’s good with kittens, baby skunks, cats. He can stare at the tarantula for an hour. He’s very intrigued by everything… everything is exciting for him.”

What a heartwarming adoption story and a classic example of why you should never judge a book by its cover. Just because an animal looks different from the rest doesn’t mean it doesn’t deserve a chance in life.
