Believe it or not, but eight years have passed since Natalie Suleman, aka “Octomom,” gave birth to her historic octuplets.
It was historic for several reasons, for example the fact that it was the first time in the history of the United States that a woman gave birth to octuplets.
The birth caused a huge media storm, and a lot was written about the family.
Overnight, mother Natalie, then called ‘Nadya,’ became a celebrity. She even became the center of an ethical debate about fertility.
Keep in mind she already had a family of six, so in the end she had a family of 14 children!
The financial burden of having 14 children was immense and Natalie received government assistance to survive. But that money was not enough.
Natalie had to take drastic measures to survive, turning to stripping and entering the porn industry.
One day, Natalie saw one of her daughters playing in one of her ‘work’ outfits – and she decided to turn her life around.
The family today
After working in the porn industry for a while, Natalie returned to her previous career in family therapy.
Her youngest children – Noah, Maliyah, Isaiah, Nariyah, Jonah, Makai, Josiah, and Jeremiah – are now all healthy according to Natalie. They follow a vegetarian diet and have an active lifestyle.
Every morning, Natalie takes her children to four different schools, due to their different ages and needs. And I thought I was busy in the mornings!
The truth behind her pregnancy
As mentioned above, Natalie became pregnant through in vitro fertilization. Her fertility specialist, the now famous Dr. Michael Kamrava, began treating Natalie in 1997 and had also treated her previous pregnancies.
During the fertilization process, Natalie had 43 embryos frozen at Dr. Kamrava’s facility. In 2007, when she was ready to get pregnant again, instead of having 2 or 3 eggs implanted as recommended, 12 were used.
Later, the doctor claimed it was Natalie’s choice.
Not surprisingly, the Medical Board of California found that Dr. Kamrava had breached ethical boundaries with his actions and revoked the doctor’s medical license in 2011.
Questions were raised about Natalie and criticism was voiced, with many saying she was crazy to have so many children.
But despite the controversy, friends and acquaintances say she is a good person.
Β¨All her life she couldn’t wait to be a mother. That was her goal,Β¨ Natalie’s friend Allison Frickert told the New York Post in 2009.
And today, it seems like Natalie’s children are all happy.
Despite the criticism and the fact that people have said terrible things about her, Natalie shows that she can take care of her children and they are doing well – and that’s what matters most!
We wish Natalie all the best in the future!
