In 2018, California was devastated by deadly wildfires, leading to massive evacuations and tragic deaths of both people and animals.
During these wildfires, a viral image circulated of a horse trapped in a pool while fleeing the flames.
Amidst the chaos, various Facebook groups aimed to reunite lost pets with their owners. From these groups emerged a heart-wrenching tale of a horse trapped due to the ferocious wildfires.
Jeff Hill, a former resident of Paradise, ventured out to assist those in need during the fires. Little did he expect what he would encounter.
Upon inspecting a neighbor’s pool, he discovered a horse inside, not lifeless, but completely drained of energy from the ordeal.

āWhile I was checking to see if someone’s house was still standing, we came across this girl who had given up and had a defeated look in her eyes. It’s impossible to say how long she had been there, but she was shivering uncontrollably and eventually lost her battle,ā wrote Jeff on his Facebook page.
Jeff removed the cover, allowing the horse to escape, and guided her to the pool stairs for freedom.

The horse, seemingly appreciative, stood briefly before moving on, signifying gratitude for Jeff’s kindness.
āShe stepped out of the pool, shook the water off, stayed lovingly with us for a few minutes as a thank you, and walked away assuring us that everything was okay ā¤,ā wrote Jeff.
The horse likely sought refuge in the pool to cool off from the heat, inadvertently getting stuck. Jeff’s intervention potentially saved her life, highlighting the importance of his actions.
Although her fate post-rescue remains unknown, we hope she found assistance and care.
