From Roadside Rescue to Officer’s Pet: The Heartwarming Story of a Thrown-Out Kitten

It’s shocking how cruel some people can be to animals, but fortunately there are kind people in the world who are willing to give these animals all the love they deserve.

Such was the case recently, when an officer responded to a case of a kitten being thrown from a vehicle – he knew fate had brought them together.

To the Animal Protection

According to WHSV, someone in Harrisonburg, Virginia witnessed a kitten being thrown from a vehicle. They took the poor kitten home to bathe it but couldn’t keep the cat themselves.

Officer Timothy Rugg of the Harrisonburg Police Department responded to the call and agreed to pick up the kitten and take it to the local animal shelter. However, the cat quickly became attached to its new human friend, snuggling up against him and nuzzling in his neck.

“She crawled up underneath a bench,” Officer Rugg told WHSV. “I reached under and picked her up. She crawled right onto my shoulder, sat there like a parrot, and started purring.”

Destined for Each Other

According to the police department, the kitten refused to leave the officer when they arrived at the Animal Protection, and Rugg found out that the shelter was almost full. He knew this was a sign that they were meant for each other.

“I just felt like she wanted to be with me,” he told WHSV. “I thought I was a dog guy, but we just had an instant connection and I just knew I had to take her.”

Officer Rugg filled out a foster form and took the kitten, now named Charlie, home. The two bring out the best in each other now.

“She was super scared when I got her, but now she’s just super active. I have to cat-proof my whole apartment for this curious little kitty,” Officer Rugg said, adding that Charlie “makes his day better” and helps him relax.

Officer Rugg and Charlie: Police Duo

“Officer Rugg and Charlie are now a bona fide crime-fighting duo,” wrote the Harrisonburg Police Department. “Charlie’s favorite duty is surveilling from the shoulder of Officer Rugg, taking a catnap, and being adorable.

“We are grateful for all of our officers and their willingness to answer every call, day in and day out, and adapt to all kinds of situations… even ones with fluffy whiskers.”

It’s heart-wrenching that Charlie was thrown from a vehicle, but we’re so glad that everything turned out okay in the end and that she found a perfect new home! It was definitely meant to be ❤️
