One such heartwarming story is that of a blind Siberian husky who continues to live a fulfilling life thanks to his loyal companion.
Sterling, an 11-year-old Siberian husky, lost his eyesight three years ago due to glaucoma.
Owner Lilian McKee shared with Daily Mail, “When he was diagnosed with glaucoma, it was devastating. We fought it for a year and a half with multiple treatments daily, but we knew his vision couldn’t be saved.”
After losing his vision, Sterling initially felt down, and there were concerns about his quality of life without being able to enjoy his favorite activities.
However, with the support of his best friend, Walker, Sterling – now sporting protective ski goggles – is thriving and making the most of every moment.
Walker, a 10-year-old Alaskan Malamute, unexpectedly entered Sterling’s life when his foster family could no longer care for him. Their bond worked wonders for Sterling.
The duo has formed a strong friendship, with Lilian noting that Walker has brought newfound joy and vitality to Sterling’s life.
“Walker loves to engage Sterling in play, and at times, it seems like he doesn’t even realize Sterling’s visual impairment,” Lilian shared. “They do everything together – walking, running, sleeping side by side, and sharing meals.”
While Sterling and Walker have distinct personalities – with Sterling being described as a sociable and dignified leader and Walker as a playful character – the pair enjoys dressing alike, sporting matching bandanas and even coordinating eyewear.
Despite Sterling’s loss of vision, it’s evident that his friendship with Walker has enriched his life, enabling him to continue enjoying his favorite activities and rediscover his cheerful demeanor.
