A dog named Higgins spent an incredible six years of his life in an animal shelter. Now, he has finally found a new loving home.
Higgins’ story deeply moved numerous individuals. This poor pup endured a total of 2381 days, equivalent to six years, in an animal shelter! Despite the lengthy stay, the staff at Humane Society never gave up on him.
Initially surrendered to the shelter as a puppy, Higgins was later adopted, as reported by Paw My Gosh.
Seven years later, when he found a new home, it seemed like a typical “happily ever after” scenario, but reality was quite different.
A few days post-adoption, Higgins was returned because he was labeled as a “mixed breed.” The shelter staff immediately recognized him – it was Higgins, back where it all started.
Days turned into years, yet no one came forward to adopt him. Higgins found himself back at the shelter, where it all began.
Despite being one year old, Higgins remained unadopted. Potential adopters seeking younger puppies consistently overlooked him.
And so, year after year, he stayed there, waiting.
As time passed, Higgins grew older, but he was fortunate to have dedicated caretakers. Unfortunately, their efforts to find him a permanent home were in vain.
Then, one day, the door of the shelter opened, and a man named Brendon Reed walked in.
Brendon expressed his desire to offer Higgins a new home.
The staff couldn’t believe it, but Brendon had heard about Higgins and was determined to adopt him. Concerned for the old dog, Brendon chose to give him a chance instead of opting for a young puppy.
After 2381 days in the shelter, Higgins finally left with his new loving owner.
Today, Higgins lives happily with his new companion, spending each day together as best buddies!
