Jessica was about to pick up her son when she suddenly saw something unusual lying on the road.
It was an animal that moved and she couldn’t see what it was. But she realized that the creature, being alone, needed support and help, so she took it home.
That’s how the animal looked at first, like a pink blob:
She tells the animal site The Dodo that the little animal was cold and of course she knew it needed food. So she took the wild animal home.
“He wouldn’t have survived if we didn’t do anything,” she says.
“I was shocked that he survived the first night.”
Jessica woke up at night to take care of the animal.
The animal was given food and shelter – and began to grow. Eventually, it was clear to everyone what kind of creature it was. A little squirrel!

He had to be monitored 24 hours a day, which is why he had to accompany her to work, among other things.
“I always took him in a shoebox.”
Now the squirrel is full grown and has been given a name, Steve.
Steve has since met female company, namely the squirrel Joline. It seems that he and the other squirrels now come and go as they please, at Jessica’s home.
“We now feed the squirrels from the entire neighborhood,” she says.
