Unfortunately, people often judge others too quickly and without any understanding of what they are going through or what problems they are facing. Sometimes, it’s difficult for us to empathize with others when we don’t know what’s really going on.
This story is a striking example of that. It tells us to never jump to conclusions – even in our toughest moments.
It all starts when a doctor rushes into the hospital to perform an emergency operation on a young boy.
A doctor hurried into the hospital after being called for an emergency operation. He answered the call, changed his clothes, and went straight to the operating room. He noticed the boy’s father pacing in the hallway and waiting for him.
When he saw him, the father exclaimed, “Why did you take so long to come? Don’t you know my son’s life is in danger? Don’t you have any sense of responsibility?”
The doctor smiled and said, “I’m sorry, I wasn’t in the hospital and I came as fast as I could after receiving the call, and now I wish for you to calm down so I can do my work.”
“Calm down?! What if your son was in this room right now, would you calm down? If your own son died while waiting for the doctor, what would you do?” said the angry father. The doctor laughed again and replied, “We will do our best, and you must pray for your son’s health.”
“Giving advice when we are not concerned is so easy,” muttered the father.
The operation lasted for hours, after which the doctor happily announced, “Thank God! Your son has been saved!”
And without waiting for the father’s response, he continued on his way, saying, “If you have any questions, ask the nurse.”
“Why is he so arrogant? He couldn’t wait a few minutes for me to inquire about my son’s condition,” the father said as he approached the nurse a few minutes after the doctor’s departure.
The nurse replied, tears streaming down her face, “His son died yesterday in a car accident, he was at the funeral when we called him for your son’s operation.
And now, after saving your son’s life, he went back to conclude his son’s funeral to a decent end.”
While it’s not possible to confirm if this story is based on real events or not, it certainly carries an important lesson: when we are angry, we tend to jump to conclusions.
It is especially crucial never to do this when encountering someone we know nothing about.
Caregivers like doctors and nurses, for example, don’t always receive the appreciation they deserve, but they are there for us every day, saving lives. They often work long hours, despite their own lives, emotions, and problems.
