America’s Got Talent, one of the world’s most popular talent shows, recently featured a familiar face for Eurovision fans. Gabriella Laberge, a French-Canadian singer and violinist who participated in the 2019 edition of Destination Eurovision in France, delivered a stunning audition that captivated both the audience and the judges.
Before taking the stage on AGT, Gabriella shared her dreams in a pre-performance video. “This is the opportunity of my life,” she said, “to pursue my biggest dream, which is to make music for the rest of my life.”
The Quebec-born artist then appeared with her violin and started her audition with a delicate solo performance.
While judges Howie Mandel, Sofia Vergara, and Heidi Klum were visibly captivated by her playing, Simon Cowell seemed less engaged. His hand hovered over the red buzzer, indicating he was ready to cut short her performance. But Gabriella had a surprise in store.
Transitioning from playing to singing, Gabriella began a soulful rendition of James Blunt’s “Goodbye My Lover.” Her angelic voice immediately caught Cowell’s attention, causing him to retract his hand from the buzzer.
The performance earned her a standing ovation from the judges and the audience, with Cowell himself joining in the applause. The judges unanimously voted to send her to the next phase of the competition.
However, Gabriella’s AGT journey is far from over. Her audition aired during the final round of auditions of the season, in episode eight.
With over 150 acts receiving “yes” votes throughout the season, only 36 can advance to the live shows. Fans will have to wait for the series to return after a three-week break to find out if Gabriella made it to the finalists.
Gabriella’s television appearances began in 2019 when she competed in the second season of Destination Eurovision in France. Her song, “On cherche encore (Never Get Enough),” was a fan favorite.
Despite her popularity, she was eliminated during the semi-finals. The competition was eventually won by Bilal Hassani with the song “Roi.”
Gabriella Laberge’s AGT audition marks a new chapter in her career. She showcases her talent to a global audience and reignites excitement among her Eurovision supporters.
Whether she advances to the live shows or not, her heartwarming performance has already left a lasting impression on both viewers and judges.
