For hundreds of years, ginger has been used for medicinal purposes. And it’s easy to understand why. It’s a spice that has many benefits, such as:

Boosting the immune system

Ginger contains numerous antioxidants and can have anti-inflammatory effects. That’s why it’s a good choice to keep the immune system in top shape. Remember, though, that it’s not a cure, but rather a preventive measure. If you already have a cold, it might be too late. Just take it preventively, daily, to fight all kinds of illnesses!

Soothing the stomach

Ginger can also be used to improve digestion, as it stimulates your intestines and increases the production of digestive enzymes. Additionally, it can also calm your stomach, reduce bloating, and prevent constipation.

Relieving muscle and joint pain

According to a study at the University of Georgia, consuming ginger daily can relieve muscle and joint pain by 25 percent. For best results, it’s recommended to drink or eat ginger every morning on an empty stomach.

Relieving menstrual pain

Ginger is not only an effective pain reliever for muscles and joints, but it can also be used to relieve menstrual pain. In a study, 150 women were given ginger during their menstruation, and the results showed that ginger was as effective as an ibuprofen tablet!

Ginger burns fat

You may have also heard that ginger can burn fat. Technically, it’s true that you can lose a few pounds and fat around your waist, buttocks, and thighs by eating ginger.

However, you should keep in mind that your energy intake must be lower than your energy consumption if you want to lose fat. Ginger alone is not enough to lose weight. It has been proven to help, though.

“We always burn a mix of carbohydrates and fat. Burning fat is difficult to force, and the best tip is to build muscles. Foods like ginger and chili can help to heat up the body to burn fat,” says dietitian Karin Magnusson at Top Health.

Ginger in the morning

A commonly heard tip is to eat ginger in the morning. Studies at Columbia University have shown that people who also eat ginger for breakfast burn an extra 43 calories.

A quick recipe to make ginger tea is as easy as boiling a cup of water. Remove it from the stove when ready, add some fresh ginger, and let it steep for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, add lemon juice.
