Meet Kefir, a Maine Coon living with his owner, Yulia Minina, in the Russian town of Stary Oskol. When Yulia first brought Kefir home, he was a tiny kitten. Little did she know that he would eventually become a giant among cats.
Maine Coons are already known as one of the largest cat breeds, often tipping the scales at up to 10 kilograms. However, Kefir surpasses even the expectations for his breed by being exceptionally large.
As reported by SWNS, Kefir now weighs a whopping 12.5 kg. His remarkable growth has taken his owner by surprise: “I couldn’t even imagine that an ordinary baby could grow so big,” she remarked.
What’s more astonishing is that Kefir is far from finished growing:
“Maine Coons typically continue to grow until they reach 3 years of age,” Yulia shared with Bored Panda. At the time of the interview, Kefir was 1 year and 9 months old.
Given his unprecedented size, most people mistake Kefir for a dog: “It’s amusing to see others’ reactions when they encounter the cat, given his immense size,” noted Yulia. “Many mistake him for a dog.”
Despite his intimidating size, Kefir is a well-mannered cat. Yulia reassured, “Not only has he grown in size, but he is also intelligent and always maintains a calm demeanor,” she told SWNS.
Describing him, she said, “His overall demeanor is akin to that of a human, and although Kefir has a majestic appearance, he is a very loving and humble creature.” “When visitors come over, all the attention is drawn to him, and he eagerly accepts petting.”
This exceptionally large feline has captivated audiences across the internet, with photos of Kefir quickly becoming viral on social media platforms.
Only time will tell how immense Kefir will grow to be. Yet, one thing is certain: he is a cat whose grand size is simply “more to love,” and his owner has an evident affection for him.
